THE ANC Youth League (ANCYL) in ward 6 in Warrenton is calling for the removal of the youth co-ordinator in the office of the mayor at Magareng Municipality, following allegations of assault.
Community members stated that he was arrested and was denied bail this week.
The ANCYL in ward six claimed that the youth co-ordinator had “violated his estranged girlfriend for some time”.
“Gender-based violence is a pandemic in South Africa. We condemn the [alleged] actions of the youth co-ordinator and call upon the mayor of Magareng Municipality, Neo Mase, and the Speaker, Bonakele Plata, to take this matter seriously.
“We do not want women to experience violence in any form. We condemn all kinds of violence targeted at women and children.”
It called for his removal from the municipality as well as the ANCYL.
The regional secretary of the ANCYL in the Frances Baard region, Sonia Bosman, added that the matter was reported to the regional working committee on December 13.
“As a regional structure, we fully support the branch and condemn any form of violence against women and children. We will be conducting our own investigation in the process and will release a formal statement to that effect. Our stance as a structure is to always rally behind the victim and I personally reach out to her to offer support,” said Bosman.
Magareng Municipality did not respond to media enquiries.
