THE SOUTH African Social Security Agency (Sassa) has announced that payments for the Covid-19 Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant will be made between February 20 and 25.

Beneficiaries are urged to familiarise themselves with the rules governing the temporary relief grant, which is strictly for those experiencing financial hardship.

According to Sassa, eligibility extends to South African citizens, permanent residents, refugees, and holders of special permits or asylum seekers with valid Section 22 permits or visas. Applicants must be registered on the Department of Home Affairs database or Sassa's social grant system, between the ages of 18-59, and reside within South Africa's borders.

To qualify, beneficiaries must also not be residents in government-funded institutions and not have unreasonably refused employment or education opportunities.

Sassa encourages beneficiaries to check their payment status and avoid unnecessary visits to payment points before their allocated dates, as funds will be processed progressively during the six-day payment window.
