A mudslide reportedly struck the Ekapa Mining Joint Shaft nearly 890 metres underground early this morning, leaving five mineworkers unaccounted for.

FIVE mineworkers are reportedly unaccounted for following a mudslide that occurred early this morning at the Ekapa Mining Joint Shaft in Kimberley, approximately 890 metres underground in Tunnel 6.
According to information received by the DFA from mine sources, who wish to remain anonymous because they are not authorised to speak to the media, emergency teams were on site and underground operations are ongoing.
No official statement had been issued by mine management or emergency services at the time of publication.
