SOL PLAATJE University is set to kick off the academic year with the Vice-Chancellor's Welcome Ceremony, marking the official start of the journey for first-year students.

The ceremony, scheduled for Saturday, February 7, at the SPU Great Hall, will feature the Passing of the Beacon of Light, symbolising the transfer of knowledge and values from the Class of 2025 to the Class of 2026.

Vice-Chancellor Professor Debra Meyer will outline the university's values, expectations, and strategic direction, highlighting the institution's focus on student development, institutional culture, and graduate shaping.

The event will be followed by the FNB Varsity Shield Jersey Handover, where the university will officially support its rugby team ahead of the 2026 season.

The ceremony and jersey handover will be livestreamed on the Sol Plaatje University YouTube channel.

When: Saturday, February 7

Where: SPU Great Hall, Civic Centre, Kimberley

Time: 10am to 11:30am for the Welcome Ceremony, followed by the Jersey Handover from 12pm to 1pm 

The ceremony and jersey handover will be livestreamed on the Sol Plaatje University YouTube channel.
