AS PART of the Back to School campaign, the Frances Baard district commissioner, Major-General Charlotte Makgari, donated much-needed school uniforms to learners at Relebogile Primary School in Hartsvalei, Warrenton, on January 20.
The donation, which included shoes, socks, shirts, trousers and jerseys, was made in collaboration with the management team, station commanders, and Community Policing Forum members.
Major-General Makgari stated that her visit to several schools in the district had highlighted the plight of pupils from impoverished families, motivating her to alleviate their needs through the donation.
The school principal, Agreenette Phale, welcomed the donation, saying it would boost pupils' morale and confidence.
"The donation aims to provide essential access to education for underprivileged children, decrease absenteeism, and reduce dropout rates. Over 80 learners benefited from the initiative, which is part of efforts to support vulnerable communities," she said.
Major-General Makgari encouraged learners to focus on their education and avoid substance abuse.
"The event underscores the importance of community support in promoting education and reducing crime," she added.
