IN A BID to keep residents informed “at the click of a button”, the Sol Plaatje Municipality has rolled out an official WhatsApp channel, inviting the public to subscribe for instant alerts on water and electricity outages, planned infrastructure upgrades, office and road closures, traffic advisories, emergency notices and other safety updates.

The municipality's Communications Unit says the new platform will broaden the local authority’s reach and ensure that critical information reaches households and businesses without delay.

“We’re moving with the times, and WhatsApp is where many of our residents already live,” said a spokesperson. “By subscribing, you’ll get real‑time notifications straight to your phone, so you’re never caught off‑guard.”

To join, simply scan the QR code displayed on municipal notices, click the link https://whatsapp.com/channel/0029VbC3K2MI1rcZrQLUhr3S, or search for “Sol Plaatje Municipality” in the WhatsApp app.

The channel is already active and promises regular updates, helping the community stay informed about service interruptions, roadworks and any emergencies that may affect daily life.
