THE NAMAKWA District Police have hailed the dedication of officers following a series of successful operations in Springbok this week.

On Wednesday, January 7, and into the early hours of Thursday, January 8, members of the Public Order Policing unit conducted targeted stop-and-search operations in the Bergsig area. The initiative led to the arrest of seven men aged between 21 and 39 for possession and dealing in drugs.

Police seized mandrax tablets and crystal substances suspected to be tik, with a combined street value exceeding R2,665. All seven suspects were released on warnings and are scheduled to appear in court soon.

Brigadier Schalk Andrews, Namakwa District Commissioner, praised the efforts of the officers involved. “The true measure of success lies not in the quantity and street value of the drugs, but in the unwavering dedication and commitment of police officers who patrol the streets daily to protect the communities of the Namakwa District,” he said.

The operations form part of ongoing efforts by the SAPS to curb drug-related activity and maintain safety across the district, demonstrating a proactive approach to policing and community protection.
