A 43‑YEAR‑OLD man has been arrested after the Kuruman Stock Theft and Endangered Species Unit (STESU) recovered suspected stolen cattle valued at about R150,000.

The unit acted on a report filed on December 19 last year that 24 cattle had been stolen from Deerwaard village in Bothithong between December 12 and 16, allegedly while the complainant’s spouse was in hospital in Kimberley.

On January 6, investigators traced the animals to a nearby cattle post, where the complainant identified nine cattle and three calves as the missing livestock. The suspect could not provide a satisfactory explanation for possessing the animals and was subsequently arrested. He is expected to appear in court soon.

Anyone with further information is asked to contact Detective Sergeant Paseka Bogoto at 076 521 1676, the Crime Stop line at 0860010111, or the MySAPS app.

All tips will be treated as confidential.
