THE SOUTH African Police Service (SAPS) in Kathu recently demonstrated a strong commitment to crime prevention when on Monday, January 5, officers arrested five individuals in connection with various criminal activities.

In one case, Kathu SAPS, together with Rhino Security, acted promptly after an incident of theft was reported, and as a result a 24-year-old man was arrested for stealing a bicycle valued at approximately R5,500.

A 33-year-old male was also arrested for theft out of a motor vehicle. Detectives and Designated Firearm Officials traced the suspect to a dumping site, where he was found in possession of suspected stolen items valued at around R13,000. A further search recovered a laptop and jump starter believed to have been stolen.

Then, with the assistance of Kathu Community Patrollers, two men, aged 20 and 23, were apprehended for housebreaking and theft. Officers recovered stolen property connected to the break-ins.

Additionally, a 34-year-old male was arrested for possession of illegal drugs during ongoing operations.

Acting District Commissioner of the John Taolo Gaetsewe District, Brigadier Kenneth Baloyi, praised the Kathu police team for their swift action and close coordination with other law enforcement structures.

He assured the community that targeted operations focusing on priority crimes will continue without interruption.
