THE KIMBERLEY High Court has granted forfeiture orders to the Hawks’ Asset Forfeiture Investigation unit and the National Prosecuting Authority’s Asset Forfeiture Unit following a series of seizures made in the Northern Cape during 2025.
In one incident, police officers attached to the Serven SAPS were conducting inspections at the Madibeng Community Kraals during a livestock auction when they recovered 16 goats suspected to be stolen. The animals were found in a bakkie, and the suspect was immediately arrested. The vehicle, with an estimated value of R35,000, was seized as it was allegedly used in the commission of a crime and was later forfeited to the State.
In a separate incident, Vosburg police officials were on patrol in the Vosburg policing area when they noticed a grey GWM single-cab bakkie transporting sheep. The driver failed to produce a valid permit to transport livestock and was arrested on the spot. The vehicle, valued at R115,300, was confiscated and subsequently forfeited to the State.
In another unrelated case, police recovered six bags of dagga inside a bakkie. The suspects were arrested, and the vehicle, valued at R41,900, was taken in for further investigation before being forfeited to the State.
In the Douglas area, police also seized a vehicle worth R114,900 after it was found to be transporting mandrax tablets. That vehicle was similarly forfeited to the State.
The Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation’s provincial head, Major General Stephen Mabuela, commended the teams involved for their efforts and contribution to these successes.
