Amapiano artist MaWhoo was forced to miss her highly anticipated performance at the RustyRocks Metro FM Tap Into 2026 New Year’s Eve event at Sun City Resort after her tour vehicle was allegedly attacked in what her team has described as a racially motivated incident in the North West.

The Bengicela hitmaker, whose real name is Thandeka Nontobeko Ngema, shared the news on New Year’s Day through a video posted on her social media platforms, showing visible damage to her Mercedes-Benz Viano.

In a statement released by MaWhoo Entertainment on New Year's Day, the artist confirmed that she was unable to honour the booking due to circumstances beyond her control.

“We regret to confirm that Ntobeko Ngema, p.k.a (popularly known as) MaWhoo, was unable to perform at the RustyRocks Metro FM Tap Into 2026 New Year’s Eve event at Sun City Resort,” the statement read.

“While travelling to Sun City from a prior engagement, the team encountered a severe racial incident and attack that caused significant damage to the touring bus, resulting in an unexpected and substantial delay.

“Despite all reasonable efforts by MaWhoo Entertainment and the RustyRocks team, it was not possible for the artist to arrive in time for her scheduled performance.”

The team apologised to fans, event organisers and stakeholders for the disappointment caused, adding that legal action was being considered.

“We have ascertained the perpetrators’ details and will be seeking further legal recourse,” the statement said.

In a separate account, MaWhoo alleged that her driver and vehicle were attacked by a group of white men while travelling through the North West on New Year’s Eve.

She claimed that one of the alleged attackers was injured during the incident, leaving blood stains on the vehicle.

“They left some blood stains on my car, and I’m sure we can use that to identify them,” she said.

The incident reportedly occurred while MaWhoo and her team were en route to Sun City from another performance. No arrests had been confirmed at the time of publication.

The artist was chosen in various radio stations for the crossover/song of the year New Year's countdown including Gagasi FM and Ukhozi FM for her smash hit Bengicela featuring Jazzworx, which came up at number three and two, respectively, on the two radio stations.
