The South African Police Service (SAPS) in the ZF Mgcawu district arrested a 26‑year‑old man during a joint operation during which a substantial quantity of dagga was seized at a residence in Paballelo, Upington, on Thursday.

Acting on information received as part of the Shanela II and Safer Festive Season initiatives, officers from Upington Border Police, the K9 Unit and Crime Intelligence obtained a search and seizure warrant.

The warrant was executed on December 11, which led to the discovery of dagga with an estimated street value of R189,000. The narcotics were confiscated, and the suspect was taken into custody for dealing in dagga. He is expected to appear before the Upington magistrates’ court soon.

District Commissioner ZF Mgcawu Major General Monica Sebili ,praised the collaborative effort, stating that the operation underscores the effectiveness of intelligence‑driven policing in disrupting the supply and trade of illicit substances within the community.

“We will continue to work together with all SAPS units to keep our streets safe, especially during the festive season,” she said.

The SAPS urges residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity. Incidents can be reported via the SAPS Emergency line 08600 10111 or through the MySAPS App.
