THE BODY of a 21-year-old man was discovered after a suspected act of vandalism that left parts of Homevale Extension without electricity during the early hours of Tuesday morning.

Sol Plaatje Municipality spokesperson Thabo Mothibi said electricians were working to restore power to the area following the incident.

"The power outage occurred this morning, around 1am, in the wake of a Ring Main Unit having been vandalised on the corner 14th and 19th streets in Homevale Extension,” Mothibi said.

"A 21-year-old man's body was discovered inside the Ring Main Unit. The incident is being handled by the Roodepan police.”

Mothibi explained that the impact of the vandalism caused significant damage to the electrical infrastructure, resulting in a widespread outage.

"The outage might last into or beyond this afternoon," he advised.

The municipality urged residents to remain patient while repairs continue, adding that the full extent of the damage will determine how long the restoration process takes.

Police have opened an enquiry into the circumstances surrounding the man’s death.
