A MULTITUDE of mourners attended a prayer service to pay tribute to Mamma Siena Nontlebo Pefile, the mother of ANC Regional Secretary, Unodumiso Buda, at John Daka Street, Promise Land on Wednesday.
ANC provincial, Regional and Branch Executive Committee leaders, along with alliance structures, honoured Pefile as being a stalwart of the ANC in the Sol Plaatje region in Ward 16.
It is believed that she was attacked in her home during the early hours of Monday morning.
SAPS Northern Cape spokesperson Colonel Cherelle Ehlers said detectives from the Provincial Serious and Violent Crimes Unit were investigating the death of a 67-year-old woman from Galeshewe.
"The incident reportedly occurred on Monday, December 1, at approximately 5.15 am at a residence in Promise Land, Galeshewe. It is alleged that three unknown assailants entered the property and assaulted her, and she succumbed to her injuries. A murder investigation is underway."

"All information will be handled confidentially, " Ehlers stated.
ANC deputy provincial secretary Maruping Lekwene and ANC Frances Baard Regional Chairperson, Wende Marekwa, conveyed heartfelt messages of support and condolences to the Pefile and Buda family.
"Her dedication and selfless service to the movement will be remembered with gratitude. May the family find strength and comfort in the solidarity of the ANC and the community of Ward 16 during this difficult time. May her revolutionary soul find eternal peace," the ANC stated.
A prayer service was held for ANC stalwart Mamma Siena Nontlebo Pefile.
