TWO MEN, aged 34 and 38, are set to appear in the Douglas Magistrate's Court on Monday, facing charges of possessing suspected stolen meat.

The arrests took place on Saturday, November 15, at approximately 4.45pm, when police patrols in Long Street, Campbell, noticed the two suspicious individuals carrying bags.

Upon searching the bags, officers discovered fresh meat and requested proof of purchase, which the suspects couldn't provide. They also failed to provide a satisfactory explanation for the contents.

Further investigation led the police to a municipal grazing camp, where they found evidence of a recently slaughtered sheep, including the head, intestines, hooves and skin.

The Pixley ka Seme district commissioner, Major-General Nomana Mtukushe, praised the officers for their vigilance and swift action, adding that they will intensify efforts during the festive season and beyond.

The police have urged anyone with information about missing livestock to contact their nearest police station or SAPS Crime Stop on 08600 10111, or use the MySAPS app, with all information treated confidentially.
