A 49-YEAR-OLD foreign businessman was allegedly robbed of a substantial amount of cash on the N7 road near Okiep on Wednesday.

The incident occurred at approximately 2pm when the businessman, who was travelling from Windhoek to Cape Town, was overtaken by an unknown white vehicle that abruptly stopped in front of him.

Two unknown males exited the white vehicle and approached the businessman, instructing him to exit his vehicle. One suspect accessed the dashboard compartment and removed a transparent plastic bag containing cash, while the businessman was physically restrained and pushed to the ground.

The suspects fled the scene with the stolen cash, leaving the businessman uninjured. Nababeep detectives are investigating a case of common robbery.

This incident comes after a recent string of successful police operations in the Northern Cape.

In September, three suspects were arrested for business robbery in Okiep, and a firearm and stolen cigarettes were recovered. Additionally, in May 2023, Nababeep police arrested three male suspects for contravention of the Immigration Act and seized over R560,000 in cash.
