FOUR men, aged between 18 and 62, were caught in possession of dagga worth nearly R20,000 during a police operation in Petrusville this week.

The arrests followed an intelligence-driven sting after officers received information that a consignment of dagga had been delivered to a house in Gevana Street, Thembinkosi Location. When police swooped on the property on November 6, they uncovered a stash of drugs with an estimated street value of R19,670.

The suspects were taken into custody on the scene and are expected to appear in the Petrusville Magistrate’s Court soon on charges of dealing in drugs.

Northern Cape police spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Thabo Litabe said the operation formed part of ongoing efforts to clamp down on drug trafficking.

The Northern Cape provincial commissioner, Lieutenant-General Koliswa Otola, also commended the swift action of the local police team, noting that such operations will continue “during the Festive Season and beyond”.

Noupoort man nabbed

EARLIER this week, a multi-disciplinary SAPS team in Noupoort successfully intercepted and removed drugs before they could reach the streets of the Northern Cape town.

The 31-year-old suspect, who had reportedly travelled by bus from George, Western Cape, to Noupoort, was spotted at around 2.30am on November 3 as he disembarked. Officers conducted a search of his luggage and discovered the drugs hidden inside.

Northern Cape police spokesperson Sergeant Molefi Sheman confirmed that the man was charged with possession of drugs and will appear in court soon.

The bust was carried out by a multi-disciplinary SAPS team acting on intelligence that helped stop the narcotics from being distributed. The district commissioner of Pixley ka Seme, Major-General Nomana Mtukushe, praised the collaborative effort, saying it demonstrated the police’s continued commitment to eradicating drug-related crime in local communities.
