A 26-year-old man from Kenhardt, Richard Roberts, was convicted and sentenced for sexual intimidation by the Kenhardt Magistrate's Court on Monday, October 27.

The incident occurred on November 20, 2024, at approximately 4.40am, when Roberts allegedly knocked on the door of a 22-year-old woman's home in Dassierand, Kenhardt. He pushed his way inside and demanded to have sexual intercourse with her, but the victim managed to escape and flee the scene.

The victim immediately reported the incident to the local police station, and a case of sexual intimidation was opened and investigated. The thorough investigation led to Roberts' arrest and subsequent conviction.

The court sentenced Roberts to four years' imprisonment, wholly suspended for five years, meaning he will only serve time if he reoffends within the specified period. Additionally, he was declared unfit to possess a firearm, and his name will be entered into the National Register for Sex Offenders.

The ZF Mgcawu District Police Management commended Detective Constable Claudine Esau of the Kakamas Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit for her diligent investigative work in bringing the perpetrator to justice.
