A SIYATHEMBA Local Municipality employee, who was released on bail after allegedly killing his girlfriend, has been arrested for the murder of his sister in Prieska.
He was previously charged with the brutal murder of his girlfriend, Izandra de Bruin, in January 2023. The trial is expected to be transferred to the Northern Cape High Court.
SAPS Northern Cape spokesperson Sergeant Molefi Shemane said this week that the Prieska police were investigating the murder of a 23-year-old woman.
“The incident occurred on Saturday, October 25, in Smartie Town, Prieska,” said Shemane.
He stated that a 29-year-old man was arrested and charged with murder and was expected to appear in court soon.
“The investigation continues,” Shemane added.
Siyathemba Municipality spokesperson Sandile Botha said the municipality was aware of the allegations reported against the employee.
“The matter is being attended to in accordance with the municipality’s internal processes, relevant labour legislation, and the applicable provisions of the Municipal Systems Act,” said Botha.
He added that, as the matter was the subject of an active criminal investigation by the South African Police Service (SAPS), the municipality was not in a position to comment further on the specific details of the case.
“Siyathemba Local Municipality remains committed to upholding the rule of law, good governance, and ethical conduct within the administration. Any appropriate administrative action will be taken once due legal and procedural processes have been concluded,” Botha added.
