THE BUSH on the outskirts of Kimberley is set for an evening of adventure under the stars as the Hon Rangers Night Race is set to take over the Rooifontein Game Reserve on Friday, November 7 2025.

Presented by the Kimberley Harriers Running Club, this unique night trail event invites runners and walkers of all fitness levels to explore the reserve’s scenic trails in a thrilling new way.

Participants can choose between two routes: a 10km trail run for those seeking a challenge or a more relaxed 5km run or walk for families and newcomers. The 10km trail welcomes anyone 15 years and older, with a cut-off time of two hours, while the 5km route is open to ages 14 and above, with a 1.5-hour limit.

Temporary Athletics South Africa licences are available for those without permanent licences, ensuring everyone has the chance to join in.

Rewards aplenty

Excitement is also on the horizon for competitive runners. Cash prizes will be awarded for the top three finishers in both distances across male and female categories. First place in the 10km run takes home R400, while the 5km champion pockets R200. The prize-giving ceremony will follow at 9pm, capping off the evening’s achievements.

Safety is a priority for this night trail experience. All participants must wear headlamps and are reminded that headphones are not allowed. Additionally, completed indemnity forms and visible license numbers are mandatory. Every finisher will be celebrated with a medal, making it a rewarding experience for all who take part.

For those who haven’t registered online, manual entries will be accepted on Tuesday, November 4, and Thursday, November 6, at The Bond, Hoërskool Diamantveld, or on race day from 5.30pm at the Rooifontein Eco Centre.

The event is designed as a family-friendly evening. After the race, participants can unwind around a bring-’n-braai fire, enjoying food, conversation, and the unique atmosphere of the African bushveld under the night sky.
