The Springbok Public Order Policing unit has arrested a 44-year-old male suspect and seized a substantial amount of protected plants valued at a significant amount.
The arrest was made on October 205, during a random stop and search operation at a fuel station in Voortrekker Street, Springbok.
The suspect was found with a large quantity of plants concealed in a Sasko flour bag inside his travel bag. The suspect is expected to appear in the Springbok Magistrate's Court soon, as the plants are believed to be endangered species.
District Commissioner Brigadier Schalk Andrews commended the members for their vigilance, stating, "The police will not allow the trafficking, movement and smuggling of protected fauna and flora in the district, inclusive of drugs, illegal firearms, stolen goods and illicit items."
Andrews also issued a stern warning to the public, emphasising that efforts will be enhanced during the festive season period with more boots on the ground. "Police will combat crime through decisive police action and robust community involvement during the festive period and beyond," he said.
