THE LONGLANDS community will petition against the release on bail of two suspects who were arrested in connection with the murder of 27-year-old Hilary Moses.
The pair are expected to apply for bail in the Delportshoop Magistrate’s Court on October 21.
Community members said they had begun conducting their own drug raids as they were fed up with the rising number of drug-related crimes in the area.
“We are standing up to fight for our rights and safety. We are tired of all the unsolved murders in our location, while little is being done to assist us,” said the residents.
SAPS Northern Cape spokesperson Sergeant Merapelo Pilane confirmed that the police in Delportshoop are investigating a case of murder after the body of a 27-year-old woman was found at her residence on October 3.
He said two men, both aged 23, were arrested and have already appeared in the Delportshoop Magistrate’s Court in connection with the case.
“The South African Police Service encourages members of the community to anonymously report any suspicious criminal activities through the MySAPS app or by calling 08600 10111, and not to take the law into their own hands,” Pilane added.
