Kimberley commemorates World Trauma Day with hands-on emergency exhibition

Kimberley marked World Trauma Day with a hands-on emergency exhibition hosted by ER24, Mediclinic Gariep, Rocket HEMS, and local emergency services. Visitors witnessed a simulated motor vehicle accident, explored an ambulance and an ICU-equipped air ambulance helicopter, and learned about trauma prevention and support available to victims. Children also toured the hospital as part of educational activities.

Today, 17 October, Kimberley joined the global observance of World Trauma Day, a day dedicated to raising awareness about the support available to trauma victims and educating the public on preventive measures to reduce the risk of traumatic incidents.

Hosted by ER24 in collaboration with Mediclinic Gariep, Rocket HEMS, the Fire Department, the Traffic Department, and PathCare. The exhibition offered visitors a unique, up-close look at emergency response in action, featuring a simulated motor vehicle accident and rescue operation to showcase the range of services available in and around Kimberley.

Attendees had the rare opportunity to explore an ER24 ambulance and a Rocket HEMS ICU-equipped air ambulance helicopter, gaining insight into the critical care equipment and procedures that help save lives during emergencies.

The event also welcomed groups of excited children, who were given guided tours through Mediclinic Gariep, providing a safe and educational experience aimed at familiarising young visitors with emergency care processes.

The free exhibition ran from 12:00 to 16:00, drawing members of the public keen to learn more about trauma prevention and emergency medical services in their community.

World Trauma Day serves as an important reminder of the critical role of emergency services, the importance of preparedness, and the resources available to help those affected by traumatic incidents. Kimberley’s hands-on exhibition highlighted these elements in a practical and engaging way, leaving a lasting impression on all who attended.
