A supervisor employed at the Kimberley Magistrate's Court and another civilian were arrested after false subsistence and travel claims were paid out to various witnesses who came to cash in the fictitious claims.

The accused Patricia Vimbe, who is employed in the cash office, and Katleho Setona were arrested when Setona was found receiving cash exceeding R6,000 after submitting an alleged fraudulent claim.

SAPS Northern Cape spokesperson Sergeant Timothy Sam said the Northern Cape Anti-Corruption Unit were investigating a fraud case, following the alleged wrongful or criminal deception intended to result in financial or personal gain that was reported to the police on October 2.

“The police arrested two suspects, a 44-year-old woman and a 42-year-old accomplice, who appeared in the Kimberley Magistrates' Court on October 3.

He indicated that the suspects were released on bail and would reappear in court on November 14.

“The police investigations are continuing,” Sam added.
