Grant recipients were left high and dry this week when a payment glitch blocked access to their social grants.

The SA Social Security Agency (Sassa) said it was aware of the glitch that left thousands of pensioners unable to withdraw their money on Thursday.

Around 15,000 beneficiaries were affected after a fault occurred between payment processor PayInc and Capitec Bank.

The issue temporarily froze access to funds.

Sassa said the problem has since been resolved and that all payments were now accessible.

Spokesperson Andile Tshona said technical teams worked “around the clock” to fix the problem and restore payments.

“The technical teams worked around the clock to resolve the issue as a top priority.

Should any clients still be experiencing challenges, they can contact Capitec Bank or our Sassa call centre,” Tshona said.

Tshona said that the agency was taking steps to prevent a repeat of the disruption.
