Sol Plaatje municipality has apologised for service delivery interruptions due to the ongoing Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP) strike, where the council yard in Ashburnham has been obstructed by burning tyres, bricks and rubble since October 1.

The acting Sol Plaatje executive mayor, Diteko Dioka, indicated that services were disrupted due to the protest action and committed that service delivery would resume on Friday.

EPWP workers are demanding permanent employment and indicated that they were under threat of being shot at because they refused to vacate the council yard.

Dioka acknowledged the inconvenience and frustration caused.

"We deeply regret the impact on daily lives, operations and service delivery expectations. The municipality remains committed to serving its people with diligence and accountability. We thank the community for their patience and understanding during this period. We reaffirm our dedication to restoring full services," he said.
