A HIGH-density crime blitz was conducted in the Frances Baard District on September 26, led by senior SAPS officials, including Major-General Keagekae Besnaar, Major-General Luntu Ngubelanga, and Brigadier Nicholas Mtongana. The operation involved various SAPS units, the Department of Home Affairs Immigration Services, and traffic units.
The focus was on curbing the movement and proliferation of drugs, substance abuse, illicit metals, and other contraband linked to contact crimes. Detectives arrested 55 wanted suspects for crimes such as murder, attempted murder, and stock theft. Additionally, 14 undocumented immigrants were arrested, and one employer was fined R20,000 for unlawfully employing undocumented persons.
During roadblocks and vehicle checkpoints, 539 vehicles and 1,011 persons were stopped and searched. Further successes included the arrest of a suspect for tampering with essential infrastructure, the seizure of 4kg of copper cables, and the confiscation of dagga and unlicensed liquor. A total of 89 traffic fines amounting to R59,400 were issued.
Major-General Besnaar extended his appreciation to all law enforcement agencies and stakeholders who contributed to the successful execution of the operation.
He reiterated that SAPS will continue to act decisively to combat contact crimes and clamp down on unregulated activities in the Frances Baard District as the Festive Season approaches.
