Sol Plaatje University Faculty of Education (SPU) is hosting a one-day African Languages Symposium on Friday, October 3 2025, at the South Campus.
The event's theme is “African Languages and Cultural Heritage: Preserving Identity Through Language Education in South Africa”.
From 8.30am to 3:30pm, researchers, educators, and language practitioners will come together to explore how African languages play a vital role in preserving cultural identity and shaping future-focused education practices.
The symposium will showcase cutting-edge research in African languages, highlight practical classroom strategies for training future African language teachers, and contribute to conversations about language, identity, and cultural heritage.
The event highlights SPU's collaboration with the Department of Education and the Pan South African Language Board on initiatives like the Mother Tongue-based Bilingual Education programme.
