THE STILWATER community staged a service delivery protest on Monday, where tyres were set alight and residents demanded an audience with the Dikgatlong mayor.

A resident of the small township near Barkly West, Bayekeni Ntaka, pointed out that since a memorandum of grievances was handed over on May 26, no attention had been paid to issues including the lack of street lights, sanitation services, bridge safety, the establishment of a Community Policing Forum, and the provision of a mobile police station.

“The community is aggrieved over collapsing houses, a lack of job opportunities, and they want a clinic to be built in the area. Land should also be made available for the homeless,” he said.

Ward councillor Saul Blom, who addressed the community, said that steps were being taken to resolve the grievances.

"We engaged with the Northern Cape Department of Health to provide a mobile clinic that will visit Stilwater twice a week. They are in the process of appointing a driver to operate the mobile clinic."

He added that feedback on the other concerns would be provided within the next seven days.

Blom indicated that no disruptions were caused by the protest action.
