A 34-year-old man was arrested in Plooysburg for illegally hunting a Kudu and a Duiker in a Nature Reserve, with a second suspect still at large.

In a swift response to a complaint of alleged illegal hunting at a Nature Reserve in Plooysburg, police apprehended a suspect in the act of slaughtering a Kudu on Wednesday, September 17 2025.
The incident occurred at approximately 1.50pm in the Nature Reserve. Alongside the Kudu carcass, the remains of a Duiker were also discovered at the scene.
The 34-year-old male suspect was arrested on charges of contravening the Nature Conservation Act 9 of 2009 for hunting protected animals without a permit. A second suspect involved in the incident remains at large.
Officials from the Department of Nature Conservation attended the scene and will assess the value of the slaughtered game.
