Sol Plaatje municipal manager suspended after marathon council session

SOL PLAATJE municipal manager Thapelo Matlala has been placed on precautionary suspension following a six-and-a-half-hour special council meeting held on September 16.

Members of the public were instructed to leave the gallery at around 4.15pm, and wait outside the chambers, after all other items on the agenda had been discussed. Then, after lengthy deliberations, the confidential item relating to the issue of the suspension was concluded at around 8pm.

The public were called back, informed of the decision to place the MM on precautionary suspension, and the meeting was then adjourned at 8.30pm.

The DA and PA abstained from voting.

An investigation will now be conducted into allegations against Matlala arising from various municipal tenders that were awarded.
