In a bid to bolster efforts against crimes targeting Automated Teller Machines (ATMs), the South African Police Service (SAPS) and Standard Bank Group joined forces in Kimberley on Tuesday, September 16.

The collaboration saw awareness sessions hosted at the SAPS Gymnasium and Kimberley Greendoors, bringing together pivotal SAPS members from various units across the Frances Baard and Pixley Ka Seme districts.

The engagement focused on forging stronger partnerships to enhance the detection of ATM-related crimes and boost conviction rates of perpetrators. Representatives from SAPS units, including the Provincial Commercial Crime Unit, Organised Crime, Detectives, and Sector Policing, were part of the discussions alongside Standard Bank's Physical Security and Tactical Operations team.

SAPS emphasised the importance of such collaborations, noting that combating crime effectively requires a united front.

Police are maintaining visibility at high-risk ATM locations across the province and are committed to running regular awareness campaigns to safeguard communities against ATM-related crimes.

The public plays a crucial role in this fight. Residents are urged to report any suspicious activities or ATM-related scams to their nearest police station, via the SAPS Crime Stop number 08600 10111, or through the MySAPS App. All information provided will be treated with strict confidentiality.

Through this partnership, SAPS and Standard Bank aim to create a safer environment for banking transactions, protecting customers and curbing crimes targeting ATMs in the Northern Cape province.
