Galeshewe men convicted: Acid burns and TV dispute lead to prison

Two men from Galeshewe were convicted and sentenced in the Kimberley Regional Court on Monday, September 15. Itumeleng Bergman received a 10-year prison sentence for a brutal attack on his 50-year-old aunt, while Moithusimang Gema was sentenced to six years for stabbing his father.

Two men from Galeshewe were convicted and sentenced in the Kimberley Regional Court on Monday, September 15. Itumeleng Bergman (30) received a 10-year prison sentence for a brutal attack on his 50-year-old aunt, while Moithusimang Gema (25) was sentenced to six years for stabbing his father.

Acid burns to aunt

Court evidence revealed that on August 18 2024, Bergman attacked his aunt during an altercation in Galeshewe, pouring a bottle of acid on her face. The assault left the victim with severe injuries.

Dispute over TV

In a separate incident on September 18 2024 in Witdam, Galeshewe, Gema stabbed his father after being denied permission to watch television while other family members were asleep.

Both men were found guilty of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm (GBH).

Major General Charlotte Makgari, District Commissioner of Frances Baard, praised the investigating officers, Detective Warrant Officer Stephen Wax and Constable Zanele Hlongwane, for their dedication and meticulous work, which led to the successful convictions.
