The Acting Northern Cape Provincial Commissioner, Major General (Dr) Thabo Mphuthi, hosted a prestigious High-Tea event with a touch of vintage on Wednesday, September 10, 2025, at the Galeshewe Recreational Hall in Kimberley.
The event, held to close out the Women's Month festivities under the theme "Building resilient economies for all", brought together women from various government departments and organisations.
In her opening devotion, SAPS Chaplain Warrant Officer Geco referred to the women in attendance as the "Deborah's of today" – empowered women with faith and courage. She emphasised the importance of women supporting and complementing each other rather than competing against one another.
Several speakers, including representatives from the National Prosecuting Authority, Metropolitan Life, and the SAPS Gender Desk, shared their insights on women's emancipation and empowerment. They encouraged women to step up, occupy spaces, and take charge of their own destiny.
In her keynote address, Major General (Dr) Mphuthi acknowledged the importance of women in society and shared her own journey of development. She urged women to recognise their worth, believe in themselves, and invest in their own growth and development. Using the analogy of a tea bag, she emphasised that women, like tea bags, achieve their worth when put in challenging situations.
The event concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks by Brigadier J Pooa, expressing gratitude to all present and the SAPS band for their energetic performances. The event was a celebration of women's empowerment and a call to action for women to build resilient economies for their future generations.
The SAPS Chaplain, Warrant Officer Geco, cited that women must not compete against each other but must emulate Deborah and complement each other.
