Thinking about death can be uncomfortable, but preparing for it is one of the most important ways to protect your loved ones. Having a valid will ensures that your wishes are honoured and your assets are distributed to the people you want to benefit from your estate.
Unfortunately, many South Africans do not have wills. According to the Masters of the High Courts, more than 70% of working South Africans do not have wills, leaving their assets vulnerable to being distributed according to the law rather than their personal wishes.
To address this issue, Legal Aid South Africa (Legal Aid SA) is partnering with the Department of Justice and Constitutional Development and the Law Society of South Africa to host National Wills Week from September 15-19, 2025. During this week, qualified legal professionals will provide free advice and help to draft or update wills.
Residents in the Northern Cape can visit the following locations to take advantage of this service:
To get your will drafted or updated, simply bring along your ID, a list of your assets, and the details of the person(s) you want to leave them to.
Don't miss this opportunity to secure your family's future. Visit your nearest location during National Wills Week and take the first step towards protecting your loved ones.
