The Northern Cape SAPS has secured a significant victory in the fight against gender-based violence and femicide. Tshepo Richard Chipanga, 37, has been sentenced to 12 years in prison for raping a 28-year-old woman in Mapoteng Village.

On February 18, 2023, the victim was accosted by Chipanga at gunpoint while she was walking home. He took her to his house, where he sexually assaulted her and forced her to bathe afterwards. The Mothibistad Regional Court handed down the sentence on September 8, 2025.

Brigadier Kenneth Baloyi, Acting JTG district commissioner, praised Detective Constable Lorato Badukane of the Kuruman SAPS Family Violence, Child Protection, and Sexual Offences unit for her thorough investigation, which led to the conviction.

The SAPS remains committed to pursuing perpetrators of GBVF crimes, ensuring justice for victims.
