A 30-year-old man has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for a fatal stabbing in Keimoes.

A fatal altercation between two men in Keimoes has resulted in a 30-year-old being sentenced to 20 years in prison for murder. Piet van Wyk was found guilty of stabbing 26-year-old Gerozade Bezuidenhout to death on March 16, 2024.
The incident began as a heated argument between the two men, escalating into a violent confrontation. Bezuidenhout allegedly chased Van Wyk with a spade, but later turned back to head home. Van Wyk then returned to Bezuidenhout's house armed with two knives, and a second altercation ensued, resulting in Bezuidenhout being stabbed once in the chest.
Keimoes SAPS registered a case of murder and conducted a thorough investigation, leading to Van Wyk's arrest. Although he was released on bail pending further investigation, Van Wyk was ultimately convicted of murder and sentenced to 20 years' imprisonment by the Keimoes Regional Court on September 8, 2025.
District commissioner Major-General Monica Sebili praised the investigating officer, Constable Eshley Jonkers, and the team for securing the conviction, demonstrating the commitment of law enforcement to ensuring justice is served.
