THE NORTHERN Cape acting provincial commissioner, Major-General Thabo Mphuthi, has welcomed the 15-year imprisonment sentence recently handed down to 33-year-old Nshirimane Fabrice for raping a 22-year-old woman.
The Hartswater Regional Court convicted Fabrice of rape, stemming from an incident in January 2024 where he offered the victim a place to rest in his home before committing the crime.
In addition to the rape conviction, Fabrice received a further three-month sentence for contravening the Immigration Act and was declared unfit to possess a firearm.
Major-General Mphuthi commended the prosecution team and the investigating officer for their thorough work in ensuring justice for the victim.
The sentence is seen as a victory in the fight against gender-based violence and femicide (GBVF), with SAPS reiterating its commitment to tackling the issue through strong partnerships with communities.
The public is encouraged to support SAPS by reporting criminal activity and taking part in the “Rate Our Service” survey.
