The curtain has fallen on the 7th edition of MADDFest, St Patrick’s CBC’s flagship cultural festival, and what a spectacular celebration it was!

What began as a school initiative has grown into a premier arts platform, drawing over 700 entries and more than 3,000 participants from across the Northern Cape, Free State, and North West provinces.

For two weeks, the energy was off the charts as pupils and artists showcased their creativity, passion, and talent. From dynamic dance performances to powerful dramatic pieces and moving works of art, MADDFest once again offered something for everyone.

Adding weight to the festival were the adjudicators, each a leader in their field: Dr George Foster (Music) from Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University, Landi Conradie (Art) from L&I Studios, and Donovan Yaards, a St Patrick’s CBC Old Boy who adjudicated Drama and Dance. Yaards’ return to his alma mater brought the festival full circle, as he reflected on the school that helped launch his artistic career.

Achievers celebrated

The pursuit of excellence remained central, with top achievers recognised in each category:

  • Art – Huda Hamid

  • Drama – Imitha Radebe

  • Dance – Tricha Richards

  • Music – St Patrick’s CBC High School Girls Choir

This year also introduced a prestigious new accolade, the Tebogo “ProVerb” Thekisho Trophy for Excellent Performance at MADDFest. ProVerb, the renowned musician, TV personality, and St Patrick’s CBC Old Boy, personally unveiled the award and hosted the closing ceremony.

The first recipient, Realeboga Gaya, perfectly embodied the spirit of the festival. A versatile performer, she shone in multiple ensembles and as a soloist, collecting gold and diamond awards. Beyond the stage, she also excels academically and in sport, making her a true all-rounder and a fitting inaugural winner.

MADDFest’s ongoing success has also been bolstered by partners such as Bothners Music, whose sponsorship equips and inspires young musicians to reach new heights.

As the applause fades, MADDFest 2025 will be remembered not just for its record-breaking numbers but for its spirit of unity, heritage, and artistic brilliance.
