Taxi operators stopped traffic at the intersection of Phakamile Mabija Road and Cecil Sussman Street on Wednesday morning.

They stated that they would not move their vehicles unless pirate operators were removed from their routes and their vehicles were impounded.

"We are still waiting for the pound that they promised would be built. Illegal operators are affecting their livelihoods as they are stealing our passengers."

The operators believed that the 32 traffic trainees who were being denied job opportunities, despite completing their remedial training, should be employed to alleviate the shortage of traffic officials.

Members of the Saps were on the scene.
