Soup Kitchen burglar sentenced to 10 years for stolen kettle

A 27-year-old man, Mpumelelo Pieterson, has been sentenced to 10 years' imprisonment for burglarising a soup kitchen in Britstown, where he stole an electric kettle.

The Britstown General Detectives have secured a 10-year imprisonment sentence for 27-year-old Mpumelelo Pieterson following his conviction for burglary and theft at a soup kitchen in Mziwabantu, Britstown, on March 19 2025.

Court proceedings revealed that the complainant discovered the soup kitchen door had been forced open. Further inspection confirmed a burglary had occurred, and the matter was reported to the police.

Investigations led to the arrest of Pieterson and the recovery of a stolen electric kettle. He was convicted of business burglary, sentenced to 10 years’ imprisonment, and declared unfit to possess a firearm.

The Pixley Ka Seme District Commissioner, Major General Nomana Mtukushe, commended Detective Sergeant Phillip Setlogelo for his thorough and meticulous investigation, which ensured the successful prosecution and incarceration of the accused.

She emphasised that strong community and police partnerships are vital in combating property-related crimes.
