The Northern Cape Gambling and Liquor Board recently held an awareness campaign in the John Taolo Gaetsewe (JTG) District, aiming to educate the public about the risks associated with gambling and promote responsible gambling practices.
The campaign, which took place at the end of July, in Mothibistad, Kuruman, featured pop-up stalls at the four-way intersection, where officials provided various services to the community.
During the campaign, officials from the Northern Cape Gambling and Liquor Board and SAPS Mothibistad assisted the community with:
The Acting CEO, Mr. Modise Letselebe, emphasised the importance of responsible gambling practices, stating that "gambling can be a fun activity, but for some, it can lead to serious problems." He encouraged individuals struggling with problem gambling to seek help, highlighting the availability of a 24-hour, 7-day-a-week helpline 0800 006 008 and the website for confidential support and resources.
The Northern Cape Gambling and Liquor Board collaborates with various stakeholders, including liquor traders, restaurants, and community organisations, to promote safer environments and responsible trading practices.
Ms Johanna Oss encouraged the community to report any instances of illegal trading or licensed traders who contravene the NCGL Act to 053-244 0890 or the SAPS hotline 10111.
The campaign aimed to reduce stigma around problem gambling, promoting open conversations and encouraging help-seeking behaviour.
SAPS and officials assisted the community with certification of documents, on how to apply for a liquor trading license and a gambling license.
