The Asset Forfeiture Unit (AFU)  in the Northern Cape has secured a R3 million preservation order against the Grand Hotel in Kuruman.

National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) regional spokesperson Mojalefa Senokoatsane on Friday said the order that was granted on August 8 in the Northern Cape High Court stemmed from a crime intelligence-led operation following reports that the Grand Hotel was allegedly operating as a brothel.

"The South African Police Service (SAPS) obtained a search and seizure warrant, with the Department of Home Affairs alerted due to suspicions of foreign national involvement. During the operation, officers encountered several women who identified themselves as sex workers, with some providing formal statements. Investigators photographed the premises and discovered: Boxes of condoms and bottles of liquor in each room and dustbins containing used condoms."

He stated that the NPA was committed to ensuring that criminals did not benefit from "ill-got gains".
