Crackdown sees 26 undocumented men arrested in Kimberley

The South African Police Service (SAPS) has made a significant breakthrough in Kimberley with the arrest of 26 undocumented males at the municipal dumping site.

A recent crackdown on undocumented persons in Kimberley has resulted in the arrest of 26 men, aged between 19 and 49 years old.

The operation, dubbed Operation Shanela II, was conducted by a multi-disciplinary team led by Brigadier Jacobeth Pooa, Provincial Head of the Provincial Operational Command Centre (POCC), and Kimberley SAPS Station Commander, Brigadier Nicholas Mtongana.

The arrests were made at the municipal dumping site in Kimberley on Wednesday, August 13, 2025. Several undocumented persons attempted to flee the scene but were swiftly intercepted by SAPS members on foot and horseback.

The apprehended individuals will be processed for deportation by Immigration Services.

In addition to the arrests, the teams conducted visible policing operations in the Kimberley Central Business District and surrounding areas, including stop-and-search operations and compliance inspections at liquor outlets, second-hand goods dealers, and retail stores.

The operation's focus areas include apprehending undocumented persons, combating the proliferation of illegal firearms and drugs, and ensuring compliance with liquor laws and regulations. 

The 26 apprehended persons, aged between 19 and 49 years old, will be processed for deportation by Immigration Services.
