Namaqua National Park’s flower season continues to burst with colour

The iconic flower season at Namaqua National Park is now in full bloom, transforming the rugged landscape into a breathtaking tapestry of colour. Following a season of excellent rainfall, the park is once again delivering a spectacular natural display that draws visitors from across the country and beyond.

From brilliant yellows and oranges to delicate whites and purples, thousands of wildflowers carpet the veld, creating a living mosaic that changes subtly from one viewing point to the next. For those who wish to see the smaller and rarer species, the hiking trails are a must. The 5 km circular trail at Skilpad in the park is currently a highlight, with fields in full bloom offering an intimate and peaceful way to experience the diversity of the region’s flora.

Among the flowers currently on show are the Namaqualand arctotis (Bittergousblom), Namaqua parachute-daisy (Bergmagriet), Cape marigold (Soetgousblom), Namaqualand daisy, Sambreeltjies, Bokbaaivygies, Glansogies, blue and white sporries, Wit-soe, various Oxalidaceae (Suurrings), vygie species, Meidestert, Namaqua knikker ramshorinkies, Drumsticks, and different Gazania varieties.

The season is expected to reach its peak from mid-August to mid-September, depending on weather conditions. Visitors are encouraged to plan their trip for sunny days with temperatures of 18°C or higher to enjoy the flowers at their best.
