THE SEARCH for a 31-year-old woman who vanished from the Sunrise area has ended in tragedy, with her body discovered this week and two suspects now facing murder charges.
According to Northern Cape police spokesperson Sergeant Timothy Sam, the woman was reported missing at the Sunrise police station on April 3. Her remains were recovered on Wednesday this week, following what police describe as a “breakthrough in the investigation.”
An intensive probe by a dedicated team led officers to two persons of interest, aged 25 and 26, who were subsequently arrested. Both now face charges of murder and defeating the ends of justice, and are expected to appear in the De Aar Magistrate’s Court soon.
Sergeant Sam said the arrests came after “meticulous investigative work” and the careful gathering of evidence that directly linked the suspects to the crime.
He again urged the public to report missing persons immediately, stressing that there is no waiting period and that early reporting “significantly improves the chances of a successful resolution”.
The investigation is continuing, with the Northern Cape SAPS reaffirming that gender-based violence and femicide remain top priorities.
