Police are investigating a murder and attempted murder case after an explosion at a Jan Kempdorp shebeen, which left one person dead and 13 others injured.

The South African Police Service in Jan Kempdorp is investigating a case of murder and attempted murder following a tragic incident at a local shebeen in Ganspan on Sunday, July 27, 2025.
Preliminary reports indicate that a group of 14 people was socialising around a fire, at around 3.30am, when an unknown individual allegedly threw an object into the flames, triggering an explosion.
All 14 individuals sustained burn injuries and were hospitalised, with a 35-year-old male victim later succumbing to his injuries.
The police are appealing to the public for assistance in locating the person of interest, who may be able to provide valuable information to aid in the investigation.
