The Kimberley SAPS is sounding the alarm about alleged fraudsters operating in Kimberley and surrounding areas, following two separate incidents of suspected fraud.

In both cases, a man identifying himself as "Herman" from Herman Civils and Projects allegedly used a fraudulent proof of payment to purchase goods from local businesses.

The first incident occurred on May 30 2025, when the suspect ordered lawnmower equipment from a local business and collected the goods the following day after emailing a fake proof of payment.

A similar incident took place at a Kimberley dealership, where the suspect purchased motor vehicle parts using the same modus operandi. The payment never reflected in the company’s account, yet the goods had already been collected.

The police are urging anyone with information about the person of interest to come forward. Detective Constable JR Webb can be contacted on 076 419 4115, or the SAPS Crime Stop number 08600 10111. Alternatively, the public can use the MySAPS app to submit tips, which will be treated with the strictest confidentiality.

The investigation is ongoing, and the police are working to apprehend the suspect.

In the meantime, businesses and individuals are advised to exercise caution when dealing with unfamiliar customers and to verify payments before releasing goods.
