DEPUTY Minister of Labour Ntuthuko Sibiya led a compliance blitz in Kimberley this week, resulting in the arrest of 17 undocumented individuals, fines totalling R30,000, and the closure of a non-compliant liquor outlet.
The operation, conducted on Thursday, brought together multiple government departments, including the South African Police Service (SAPS), Department of Labour, Department of Home Affairs, Coghsta, the Northern Cape Liquor Board, and Sol Plaatje Municipality.
Northern Cape police spokesperson Sergeant Dikeledi Gopane confirmed that the operation targeted several business premises across the city, including a warehouse and bottle store. Four employers were issued fines for labour law violations, while immigration enforcement led to the detention of 17 undocumented persons.
One liquor outlet was also shut down for breaching licensing regulations.
The operation forms part of an ongoing effort to clamp down on illegal business activities and ensure compliance with labour, immigration, and municipal laws in Kimberley and the Northern Cape.
A total of 17 undocumented individuals were detained.
