SOL PLAATJE University (SPU) in Kimberley on Tuesday welcomed a high-level delegation from North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University (NC A&T), where the two institutions signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to strengthen their international partnership.

According to the director of Institutional Advancement in the Office of the SPU Vice-Chancellor, Kashini Maistry, the visit marks a significant milestone in deepening ties between the two universities. It follows the signing of a formal International Collaboration Agreement earlier this year.

The MOU was signed by SPU’s acting Vice-Chancellor and Principal, Professor Debra Meyer, and Dr Melissa Jackson Holloway, Vice Chancellor and General Counsel for Legal Affairs, Risk and Compliance at NC A&T. The signing was followed by engagements between the executive management teams and deans from both institutions.

“Through this partnership, SPU and NC A&T reaffirm their commitment to shared goals, including student and staff exchanges, collaborative research initiatives, and academic resource-sharing — all aimed at advancing global scholarship and innovation,” said Maistry.

She added that both institutions recognised the value of international collaboration in driving development and enriching the academic experience.

"This historic engagement is set to enhance SPU’s global footprint and strengthen educational ties between South Africa and the United States," she said.
